Navajyothi Federation was formed by bifurcation of Keerthi Federation in 2008, with 7 out of 19 self-help groups in Kaloor. At present, there are 23 SHGs in Navajyothi federation. In the beginning, no single person had any job in the groups, but now almost 75% of members either have a job or started a self-employment unit with the support of group loans. With the training and motivations from federation and ESSS, one SHG member got a chance to contest in the corporation elections in 2015, and she elected from the Kaloor area. Timely auditing of groups is doing on every year.
The federation is active in charity and supported three low-income families to renovate the house. They started a death benefit schemes- on the death of a member, they will give 25,000/-to their family. As of now, they had given support to four families. They also have good direct linkage with banks (Canara Bank, Andhra Bank, People’s Urban Bank). The federation is very supportive of ESSS’s Asakiranam paper collection, Palliative Care, terrace garden. Further, they gave materials worth Rs. 19 Lakhs for flood victims (food items, vessels and clothes).
