Environment and Natural Resource Management

ESSS upholds Green Protocol as a strategy to ensure a sustainable world for all. Greenery in our living environment benefits more than just our health and well-being. It also aids water management, organic farming and promotes biodiversity, as well as reducing the effects of different kinds of pollutions. The Green Protocol is also envisages significant waste reduction by avoiding the use of disposables and replacing them with reusable alternatives. Major interventions of ESSS in this regard are as described below.

Environmental Campaign

Water Literacy Mission integrating varied programs like water auditing, rejuvenation of the local water bodies, community based water management and imparting the technical skills for rain water harvesting techniques like Rain Water Wells, Pits, and Spillways etc to the local people.

Rain Water Storage Systems

Rainwater has been collected in the Ferro Cement tanks to keep it for later use when scarcity arises. 5000-liter system will provide adequate amount of water for a family and cooking at least for 3 months. ESSS’s trained team of masons helps community people to construct rain water harvesting tanks.

Organic Farming

Organic farming involves fewer pesticides, prevents soil erosion, reduces nitrate leaching into groundwater and surface water, and recycles animal waste back into the farm as compared to conventional agriculture. The nutrients presents in organic food can be beneficial in preventing life style diseases like cancer, diabetes, blood pressure problems etc. ESSS promotes kitchen garden, terrace garden and provide trainings in organic farming.

Sustainable & Renewable Energy

Sustainable energies like solar energy, bio-gas can continue to be a viable energy source for many generations. ESSS provide a strategic guidance to reduce the usage of electricity and wood fuel and promote usage of sustainable energy.

Environmental Pollution control

As the world undergoes a rapid transformation as a result of technological advancement, modernization and industrialization, extensive efforts have been made to prevent environmental degradation.  The environmental pollution threatens food safety and quality, human health and contributes to climate change. ESSS promotes the three R’s of waste management – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle for the environmental sustainability through awareness creation, campaigning, research and creating replicable models.

Social Forestry

ESSS encourages the care and management of tree populations in urban and semi urban settings to improve the urban environment. This concept advocates the role of trees as a critical part of urban structure.
