Ms. Binu X. Dalia is a member of Asraya Self Help Group, Elamakkara. When she joined the group in 2004, she found it difficult to deposit the minimum thrift amount in SHG. The training received from ESSS inspired her to begin some IGP unit and finally decided to start a chapatti making unit in her area as there was no such unit in her neighbourhood. The initial problem was to find capital, machinery, and a shop in a nearby location. The shop was found with the help of her husband.
Further, the agency she decided to purchase the machinery promised necessary training and support to her. ESSS provided KSBCDC linkage loan to help her to raise the capital needed. She widened the business by making idiyappam and velleppam, traditional Kerala breakfast items. In between, she attended a catering course conducted by ESSS, and it helped her widen business further by starting a catering unit and fresh juice store along with the shop. Presently she employs four other women and earns a minimum profit of Rs.3000 daily. Further, with additional credit support from KSBCDC, she constructed a new shop on her own and shifted her business to the new building.
